StructureTec News
StructureTec goes GREEN
StructureTec Awards LaSalle Bank Midwest's Troy headquarters building is the first existing building in Michigan to achieve a U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) designation. The LEED Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and high performance operation in sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. LaSalle's building earned Gold-level certification, the second-highest honor.

StructureTec worked on almost 94,000 sq. ft. of roof, over multiple areas, including tiered roofs on the front of the building. Over 34,000 SF is vegetated roof and the remaining area was covered with a white reflective coating. All roofs were replaced. All existing insulation was reused, except for wet insulation, as indicated by StructureScanTM (Infrared Technology). This resulted in only 2% of the existing insulation being removed. Green roofs were covered with a prevegetated / precultivated sedum mat (similar to sod) by Xero Flor America. The sedum is drought-resistant, reducing the amount of water required to maintain, after the 1 to 2 year set-up period. The sedum is a low-lying vegetation, and does not require mowing or other maintenance. The vegetated roof areas covered with a built-up modified bitumen roof system, including welded seams for added protection against standing water. All roofs were flood tested prior to installation of the vegetation system. The building energy costs are reduced by the creation of ice storage generated by the chillers using off peak (overnight) electrical energy. The ice is then used as a coolant during the daytime cooling load periods.
