Prioritization Made Easy

This session explores how to give facility managers an effective tool to support needed capital/operating dollars as well as providing a complete picture of actual conditions to allow effective prioritization of a building envelope.

Building Envelope Restoration

This program focuses on identifying problems and solutions related to the exterior envelope of buildings. You will learn the components that comprise the building exterior including masonry, concrete, windows, cladding, and roofing. The causes and effects of conditions that create potential building problems will be reviewed, along with viable solutions.

Objectives:

  • Identify common building conditions and problems
  • Examine problems in original construction, deferred maintenance, etc.
  • Determine solutions - repair, restore, replace (pluses/minuses)
  • Provide details for successful project management
  • Review project profiles
Construction Documents

Learn the basic principles of specification writing. The program will examine the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) standards. The structure of the CSI divisions will be explained. You will learn the about the appropriate language, organization and location of information used within all standardized specifications. The legal aspects and administrative requirements of construction documents, including specifications, will also be reviewed.

Objectives:

  • Learn effective methods of specifying
  • Understand the basic specification organization
  • Establish a basis for evaluating good specifications
  • Examine general conditions of the contract and legal/administrative requirements
Design/Build

The Use of Design/Build in Building Envelope Renovation

This session will explore the benefits of using the design/build construction method for renovation projects involving building envelopes - walls, roofs, windows, skylights, etc. The design/build method saves money by ensuring fast-track work, with guaranteed completion date and a lump sum project price.

Doing Roof Restoration Projects the Right Way ...

Maximize Deferred Capital Expenditures

This program focuses on identifying problems and solutions related to roof restoration projects.

Program Benefits and Objectives:

This program will show how to manage your roof restoration projects.

  • Means, methods and procedures for restoration.
  • Determine what the requirements are for a "good candidate" for roof restoration.
  • Understand the value of DEFERED CAPITAL EXPENDITURES in managing a Long Range Asset Management Program.
Energy Dollars Out the Window ... and the Walls and Roof?

We will review energy saving options and non destructive testing methods that are available and how to integrate these results with needed maintenance of the building envelope.

Engineered Management Systems

This program examines management systems specifically designed for managing the building envelope components (roofs, walls, structures) of your facilities. You will learn how to take advantage of technology to systematically prioritize and schedule maintenance, repairs, or replacements of the building envelope components throughout your facilities.

Objectives:

  • Identification of budgeting requirements to maintain your facility
  • Documentation on the present condition of your facility roofs and walls
  • Forecasting and planning tools for long-range budgeting
  • Life cycle costs for various alternatives
  • Generation and tracking of work orders
  • Review project profiles
Facilities Management

Building for Success: Key Elements in Developing an Effective Facilities Management Plan

Methodologies used in training service personnel, structuring a comprehensive supervisory development program and implementing a successful quality assurance program.

Program Benefits:

  • Keys for training, developing, and motivating the service workers and skilled tradesmen.
  • Keys for structuring a comprehensive supervisory development program.
  • Keys for implementing a consistent and successful quality assurance program.
Glass-Metal Curtain Wall - Investigation and Remediation

Learn the different types of glass-metal curtain wall systems, how they perform, which components deteriorate, and remediation options.

Green Roofs

Designing and Installing Green Roofs that Work

This presentation will focus on proper design and construction of reliable green roof systems, primarily focusing on the weatherproofing aspects.

Program Benefits and Objectives:

  • Green roofs have many benefits, but also come with challenges, mainly with regard to leakage. Green roofs are significantly more complicated than a standard roof. This is primarily due to the fact that the membrane is buried (making repairs difficult) and that the membrane never dries. Reliable design and construction of a green roof requires a shift in thinking to considering the area as a "plaza" instead of a roof.
Infrared Technology and Your Roof

What You Don't See Will ABSOLUTELY Hurt You!!

Thermal imaging of the roof is generally agreed upon by experts as being the most reliable method for detecting moisture. This method does not require direct contact with the roof, but rather takes pictures of 100% of the roof surface. This allows for a relatively quick inspection. This also enables a precise picture of the roof to be viewed. The results are shown visually and are also normally mapped out on the roof surface. This process ensures that accurate repairs can be made on the roof system to remove the areas of wet insulation, therefore maximizing the service life of the roof system. This process will enable the building owner to properly rate and prioritize (Roof Condition Index) major capital projects, as well. In addition, there are numerous applications for exterior walls and building envelope.

Managing Roofing Projects

This session will involve a frank discussion of the pros and cons of the different methods of engaging in capitol roofing projects. We will review project management and project delivery methods.

  • Working directly with the Contractor
  • Working directly with the Manufacturer
  • Working directly with an Architect / Engineer
  • Working directly with a Specialty Consultant
  • Working directly with a Construction Manager
We will review the advantages and disadvantages of each of their working relationships.
Moisture in the Building Envelope

Discover how moisture affects the building envelope, design considerations for new buildings, and remediation options for existing buildings.

Pavement Management Program

This presentation will describe how to develop a Pavement Management Program for multiple sites. By developing such a program facility managers can plan and forecast their maintenance, operational and capital budgets for each site. In addition to reviewing different pavement technologies, we will review pavement project management processes.

Roof Asset Management Program

Learn how to solve roofing problems through awareness. Discover project management methods for successfully completing projects. Explore the causes and effects of conditions that cause roof systems to become "short lived." Find out how to implement programs that will yield the greatest return on investment.

Objectives:

  • Identify common roof conditions and problems
  • Determine solutions - repair, restore, replace (pluses/minuses)
  • Provide details for successful project management
  • Review project profiles
Specifications: A Roadmap to Success

The single most important component of a successful construction project is a properly prepared set of specifications. This program highlights why specifications are important and, more importantly, what to look for to ensure that the documents provide the best possible outcome for the project.

The Energy Management Plan - Energy Savings Strategies

Discover ways to save energy in your facilities.

This session will cover ways to identify and examine energy loss through the building envelope, encompassing how to develop and manage a plan. This program will show how to assist in gaining the greatest savings in energy costs with a concentration on the building envelope as a whole. We will discuss means and methods of developing programs to maximize the integrity of your facilities.

The Three Pronged Approach to Successfully Maximizing Your Assets

Be proactive not reactive! This seminar will help bring your focus back to the basics and assist you in devising a custom strategic “plan of attack”, to meet your specific building envelope goals and objectives. The purpose of this seminar is to provide you with a “roadmap”: Where you are, where you would like to be, and how to get there. The information discussed will be drawn from actual case studies from organizations and corporations across North America.

To Restore the Roof or To Not

That is the Question!

Roof Restoration is a very viable alternative to roof replacement provided certain criteria is met. This session will cover How To Determine if a roof is restorable and more importantly, key conditions that may make restoration unacceptable.
